Amarynthia is a Witchcraft Folk band based in the Scottish Highlands.
In a windswept hillside cottage in the far northwest of the Scottish Highlands, looking out
over dark waters at the northern tip of the Isle of Syke, there lives a witch who writes
witchcraft folk music with her Pagan husband.
Whilst this sounds like a fairytale this is in fact Amarynthia, a Witchcraft folk band who have
been making magickal music since the winter solstice of 2019.
Amarynthia folk songs, all original, sing about all aspects of witchcraft including seasonal
festivals, spellcasting, deities, divination and magickal rituals. They also examine the history
of witchcraft, in particular the witch trials of the C16th and C17th and infamous witch trials
including the Pendle Witches.
When they perform live, their set always includes traditional music from the 1500s and 1600s as a
reminder that when this music was playing, women, men and children were being put to
death all over Europe, wrongly accused of witchcraft.
Tamsin is a practicing traditional witch, a reader of tarot cards and a psychic. Several
Amarynthia songs have been written with the help of the spirit world, with tunes remembered
by the land on the shores of highland lochs or ancient battle sites, heard by only a few who
can hear the long dead pipes and voices that play them.
Living at the edge of the map in the tiny village of Gairloch they are not regulars on the
gigging scene, but they do perform a few times a year in Scotland at Pagan events and
festivals.
